AMES, Iowa - Redshirt sophomore Kyven Gadson has been named the Big 12
Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season after going 2-0 over the
weekend, helping Iowa State (4-3 overall, 0-1 Big 12) pick-up two dual wins out
east.
Gadson, who is slotted at No. 9 at 197 pounds in the latest InterMat poll,
picked up his 12th and 13th victories of the season this past weekend. On Friday
night in Piscataway, N.J., Gadson won a 15-6 major decision over Rutgers' Dan
Seidenberg helping Iowa State to a 19-15 dual win over the Scarlet Knights.
On Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia, Gadson was pitted against top ten foe, No.
7 Micah Burak of Penn. Gadson continued his winning ways picking up a 3-1
decision with an early takedown in the first overtime period. Burak is a
returning All-American, as he finished 7th at the NCAA Championships last March.
Gadson's win helped the Cyclones defeat the No. 20 Quakers 25-9. The victory
over Burak is Gadson's third win over a ranked opponent this season.
The Waterloo, Iowa native's 13 wins on the year rank second on the team,
trailing only No. 19 Michael Moreno who leads the team with 17 victories. Gadson
sports the lone undefeated dual record for the Cyclones, as he is 6-0 in dual
competition with three of those six wins coming by way of major decision.
